New Legislation on Street Vendor Penalties in Buenos Aires

The Secretary of Public Affairs of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Waldo Wolff, announced on Radio Rivadavia the possibility of presenting a project to increase the penalties for car watchers, commonly referred to as "trapitos" in the Federal Capital. This project is a response to several recent acts of violence, particularly the case of a doctor who was attacked in the Flores neighborhood for refusing to pay the trapitos.

Wolff expressed the need for the community to get used to reporting these incidents, but also emphasized the responsibility of all legislators to support this initiative. He highlighted the arrest of the car watcher who assaulted the doctor in Flores, pointing out that a total of 600 trapitos have been arrested, although many of them are released if there is no direct aggression.

The official mentioned that the majority of trapitos are people in situations of poverty who come from the suburbs to the city in search of work. Given the difficulty of holding car watchers accountable if there are no violent acts, a project is proposed to toughen the penalties in these cases. The intention is to carry out more effective actions to prevent episodes of aggression like the one suffered by the doctor in Flores.
